Untreated Zones (ZNT)
The ZNT (Untreated Zone) stems from the Order of 12/09/2006 relating to the marketing and use of plant protection products.
It is specific to each plant protection product and is at least 5m regardless of the phytopharmaceutical product used and can extend to 20m, 50m, or even 100m.
This information appears on the product label.
In the case of a mixture: the ZNT of the mixture is the largest ZNT among the mixed products. Except if the ZNT is 100m, in which case any mixture is prohibited.
The ZNT aims to protect water resources and is calculated from the edge of the water point.
The water points taken into account are those shown on the most recent IGN map at 1/25000 scale or defined by prefectural orders.
The 3 conditions to reduce the ZNT from 50m to 5m or from 20m to 5m:
- Presence of a permanent vegetated buffer strip at least 5m wide along the water points;
- Use of technical means reducing drift by a factor of 3; the list of approved anti-drift nozzles is available here
- Recording of all product applications carried out.
