Exploring Peasant Agroecology with La via Campesina (Belgium)
![]()
In this video, Eliaz Moreau, Land Policy Officer at the European Coordination Via Campesina (ECVC), provides an in-depth look into the mission and work of ECVC, the European branch of the global peasant movement La Via Campesina. He explains the movement’s roots in defending peasant rights against neoliberal agricultural policies and highlights its core goals: food sovereignty, agroecology, and land justice. The video explores the importance of peasant agroecology as both a farming practice and a way of life, emphasizing sustainable land use, soil health, and farmer-led knowledge sharing. It also discusses the challenges posed by industrial agriculture in Europe, and advocates for public regulation of land markets to promote fair access and generational renewal in farming. Real-world examples from across Europe illustrate how small-scale farms are leading the way in ecological practices and how policy changes at the EU level could support healthier food systems.
