Erosion TTool/Installation of a vegetated bund

This is an alternative to fascines preferably in drained areas. It is a soft hydraulic structure that allows to filter water and limit mudslide phenomena. It is most often made up of squares of coconut fiber rolls held by deadwood stakes. The rolls need to be replaced every 5 to 7 years.

Advantages

  • Slowing down of runoff and reduction of transported sediments.
  • Stabilization of banks and blocking of water and sediments.
  • Retains solid particles.

Disadvantages

Can be costly.

Advice

Location: Berms must be placed perpendicular to the runoff axis, in between plots or in plot corners to retain soil and slow down water.

  • Maintenance: From €0.76 to €1/m/year.
