Weed management by combining agronomic levers and mechanical weeding

Crop-livestock farmer in a catchment area (BAC), Eric Buysse has put the soil back at the center of his considerations. The coherent combination of agronomic levers has allowed him to considerably reduce his blackgrass seed bank. The elimination of certain active substances notably contributes to the revival of the microbiological activity of his soils.
The changes made in weed flora management have resulted in:
- the implementation of false seedbeds to exhaust the blackgrass seed bank, which was becoming increasingly problematic on the farm, and to avoid using glyphosate;
- an extension and diversification of the crop rotation while maintaining the spring/autumn crop ratio;
- implementation of weed control mechanical methods: hoeing and spring tine harrow on sugar beet and spring tine harrow on field bean or spring pea and spring barley.
