Tachinidae

From Triple Performance
Tachinaria preparing to lay eggs in a caterpillar (Ephytia-INRAE)
  • Dishevelled appearance
  • From 1 to several generations/year.
  • Adults lay eggs on foliage or in a host.
  • Observable from May to October.

Usual method of eliminating pests

  • Adults : flower-feeding
  • Larvae : once ingested or hatched, they develop in the host causing its death (Lepidoptera, Coleoptera).

Weak parasitism on beetles.

Very effective on caterpillars, particularly noctuid moths, leafrollers and codling moths.

Technical and agronomic management advice to encourage them

It is important to plant the edges of plots with nectar-producing plants : buckwheat, sunflower, phacelia, etc. Choose plants whose flowering periods overlap or follow one another.

Structures to be set up : flower strips, grass strips, shrub hedges.
