Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa, in the Chenopod family) is a species of annual herbaceous plant in the Amaranthaceae family (according to the phylogenetic classification) or the Chenopodiaceae family (in the Cronquist classification). It is a pseudocereal rather than a true cereal, because it is not a grass. From a phylogenetic point of view, quinoa is closer to species such as beetroot, spinach and amaranth than to wheat.
