Digitaria sanguinalis
Digitaria sanguinalis, crabgrass, is a species of monocotyledonous plant in the Poaceae family (grasses), subfamily Panicoideae, native to the Old World.
It is an annual herbaceous plant with a decumbent or prostrate habit and culms up to 10-30 cm long. The inflorescence consists of spiciform racemes grouped in a quasi-verticulate at the end of the flower stalk.
Like all Panicoideae, it is a C4 photosynthesis plant.
The plant is mainly grown as a fodder crop. It was once cultivated for its seeds in Eastern Europe. It is also a weed in Western Europe, particularly in maize crops in Belgium, but also in various parts of the world where the plant has been introduced.
Some populations have been reported to be resistant to herbicides in Australia.
This species is considered invasive in some parts of the world, notably the United States.()
