Community-Led Soil Unsealing in Amsterdam-West (Netherlands)

From Triple Performance

This video documents the transformation of an abandoned playground in Amsterdam-West into a functional community garden. Initiated by local residents, the project began with municipal approval and was built through collective effort: removing concrete tiles, bringing in biological soil, and composting neighbourhood kitchen waste to improve soil quality.

Over 12 years, the garden has become a hub for sustainable urban living, hosting regular volunteer days, seasonal events, and workshops.. This initiative demonstrates how local communities can effectively manage urban land, build healthy soil, and adapt to climate change.
