Common ragweed
Ambrosia artemisiifolia L., mugwort or ragweed, is a species of dicotyledonous plant in the Asteraceae family, subfamily Asteroideae, native to the Americas. It is an annual herbaceous plant that grows in its native regions in cultivated fields, pastures and fallow land (weed), as well as on roadsides and uncultivated land (ruderal).
The species was introduced to Europe from the end of the 19th century, as well as to most temperate and warm-temperate regions of the world, where it has often become naturalised, particularly in North Africa, the Middle East and Australia. It has become undesirable because it is a pioneer, nitrophilous and invasive plant, whose pollen can cause severe allergies in sensitive people.()
