Arachnids (Arachnida) are a class of chelicerate arthropods, terrestrial or aquatic, often insectivorous. This group includes spiders, scorpions and mites. Within the phylum of arthropods, they are distinguished by the fact that they have four pairs of legs, no wings or antennae, and simple eyes (ocelli) rather than compound eyes. Most arachnids are oviparous and the sexes are generally of distinct morphologies (sexual dimorphism).

The name of the class comes from the Greek word arachné, which means " spider ".()
