Equisetophytes (Equisetophyta), or Sphenophytes (Sphenophyta), are the group of pteridophyte plants that includes all the horsetails. In the new classifications, they form the subclass Equisetidae (Equisetidae).

These vascular plants appeared in the Devonian Period and formed a very large diversity in the Carboniferous Period, including arborescent forms such as the genus Calamites. Only herbaceous forms have survived to the present day and today's species are all classified in the family Equisetaceae and the genus Equisetum.()

Horsetail can be used to make decoctions and herbal teas to protect vines.
